20th Innovation Breakfast: IT are essential in the present for facing the future

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are a challenge which companies must take on if they want to be more competitive and efficient. Using ICT means reducing daily management costs, but it also implies having available a series of well-ordered and automated internal processes which enable a company to grow in a systematic fashion. Investing in ICT, therefore, means investing in the future, and this is especially true in times of crisis.

During the 20th Innovation Breakfast, which was organised by the ADI on 30th April 2009, Òscar Saro, the Business Manager of Telecon Business Solutions presented a range of technological solutions for improving the business processes of companies with the aim of highlighting that the ROI (Return on Investment) of ICT is always positive for a company when used appropriately.

In particular, Saro explained the concept of automation by using the example of ICT in invoicing; the management of business content via an e-library; the corporate web pages of e-business, and the implementation of telecommunications.

As a company case study to illustrate the main theme of the Brunch, Joan Masó, Sales Manager of Texbor, explained that Texbor had already made a firm commitment to the implementation of information technologies five years earlier, enabling, on the one hand, the automation of the company's internal processes such as invoicing, and on the other hand, adopting communication technologies to enhance connectivity with clients and improve cost efficiency and speed of response.

This technological foundation has allowed Texbor to launch an e-business web site (e-commerce) and, therefore, internationalise and expand the business.

Masó went on to highlight two vital points for dealing with a modernisation process of this calibre. Firstly, it is vital to have a team which has been prepared to work with these new technologies. Secondly, it is vital to acknowledge that ICT are necessary to be competitive now and to have a sound system of internal management to be able to handle business expansion.
